Working Meeting of the InfoCons Delegation with Representatives of the Building Respect for IP Division of the World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO

On the sidelines of the Sixty-Eighth Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Romanian delegation held a working meeting with representatives of the Building Respect for IP Division of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

The Romanian delegation was represented by Mr. Sorin Mierlea, President of InfoCons, and Mr. Andrei Ijac, Director General of the Romanian Copyright Office (ORDA).

On behalf of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the meeting was led by Mr. Xavier Vermandele, Senior Legal Counsellor within the Building Respect for IP Division, together with members of his team.

The discussions focused on consumer awareness and education in the field of intellectual property, highlighting the role of digital tools in supporting consumers and promoting respect for intellectual property rights.

During the meeting, the Romanian delegation presented the InfoCons App, the world’s first Consumer Protection Passport, available in 33 languages. The application contributes to raising awareness of intellectual property by providing consumers with alerts on products suspected of infringing intellectual property rights, as well as access to an Intellectual Property Dictionary, designed to help users better understand key intellectual property concepts and the importance of respecting intellectual property rights.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to exchange views on future cooperation initiatives aimed at strengthening consumer information, education, and awareness in the field of intellectual property, while promoting a culture of respect for intellectual property rights for the benefit of consumers and society as a whole.
