The anniversary programme combines music, contemporary art, cultural and natural heritage, education and science, highlighting their contribution to strengthening dialogue, cooperation and connections between people, communities and generations.

Romania – 70 Years of Cooperation within UNESCO

Romania became a member of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization – UNESCO on 27 July 1956, while the Romanian National Commission for UNESCO was established on 21 September 1956.

The 70th anniversary is both an opportunity to celebrate Romania’s journey within the organisation and a moment to reflect on the role of education, culture, science, heritage and intercultural dialogue in building the future.

Romania’s membership of UNESCO involves participation in international cooperation in the fields of education, science and culture, as well as the recognition and protection of cultural and natural values that form part of the world’s universal heritage.

The UNESCO 70 – ROMANIA GALA is organised by the Romanian National Commission for UNESCO, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Research, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Forests, ARTEXIM and the Bucharest National Opera.
